Coming to a cable channel near you

The only thing I have to say about the BBC’s announcement that it is going to launch a hard-news cable network in the USA is THANK GOD! US news outlets are sorely lacking anything that is… well… news. This is especially true in the morning.

Unfortunately this channel will probably be on premium cable, which means that the people who really need to see it probably won’t. The general media consuming American will continue to be fed news that is missing real substance instead of Hollywood glitz. For whatever reason the media in the US thinks we are more interested in the fact that Britney and Cletus are mating again or that Brangelina pooped out a kid in Namibia.

Me? I’d much rather hear about why the world hates us so much, something every beer chugging, NASCAR watching red neck in the Bible-belt really needs to hear.

  1. You are so right. Most of the news we see has been filtered through the big business sieve. GE owns nbc, cnbc, MSNBC etc. and Fox well lets just say you’ll never see a protest about raising the minimum wage on their channel. Todays news media seems to have forgotten there are two sides to every story.

  2. They must be trying to compete with Aljazeera–however I suspect the BBC World that the US will get will be filtered for American eyes.

  3. Cynical Queer Says:

I suspect you're correct on that. They probably won't want to broadcast anything that would upset King George and his merry band of thugs.
