Congress to extend daylight savings time?

I found this interesting article on CNN.

O.K. I’m all for having more daylight in the evening, but their proposal is to extend daylight savings time until the last weekend in November. It would still start on the last weekend in March like it does now. Anyone else see the problem here?

Last October the USA started standard time 7 weeks ahead of the shortest day of the year. When we started daylight savings time at the end of March it was 14 weeks after the shortest day of the year.

The people who crafted this bill have absolutely no idea how the physics of the planet work. It would make more sense to move the start of daylight savings time back to either the first or last weekend in February instead. The first weekend in February would be 7 weeks after the shortest day of the year and the last weekend would be 10 weeks after. Doing it this way would give you the same amount of evening daylight in February as we experience in October. It would make more sense.

Of course folks in Indiana and Arizona won’t care either way since they don’t participate in the time changes.
