OK, this whole case is bizarre, but the News and Observer of Raleigh, NC really needs to be consistent.  If you’re going to protect the accuser in a sex-crime case by withholding their name, you need to apply the standard universally.

The man, James Frederick Bethard, 19, of Maryland…

The News & Observer is not identifying the woman in keeping with its general policy of not identifying people who allege sex crimes.

Apparently they only withhold the identity of the accuser if they don’t have a penis. 

*shrugs*

I got something yesterday that brightened up my day significantly.   I’ll fill you all in when I get the rest of it.

…was my head hitting my desk.

Mother nature decided to keep me awake last night with her pre-Fourth of July extravaganza.  Not only did the storm come through once at about 1:00 AM, but it repeated about every 30 minutes until 3:30 AM. 

I don’t think caffeine is going to help this one.  *ack*

On the bright side, I did get most of the trim in the house painted.  I still have a lot to go, but at least I’m getting closer to installing the carpet.  I can’t do that until the painting is done.  Maybe next week I can order the carpet and get it installed?  Hopefully the $200 whole-house offer will still be going on as a Fourth of July special.

Well I’m making some headway on the finish work on ye olde crap shack.  This weekend I’ve been painting trim.  I figured I’d get it ALL done this weekend, but it’s going incredibly slow.  Perhaps TQE is using his don’t paint the trim voodoo doll on me?

I can say the part I’ve gotten done looks great though.  And even though I’m changing the wall color slightly, painting the trim white has made my previous poor color choice look much better.

On another note, the bricks I put on Craig’s List are finally gone.  So now I don’t have that eyesore in the back yard anymore.  Yippie!

Let’s hope the balance of the trim work goes faster.

TQE would probably cringe if he was here.  When I paint, I draw the blinds and do it in the nude.  It makes cleaning up the paint splatters that get on me so much easier.

Now that I’ve given you all that wonderful visual…  The eye bleach and mental floss are over in the corner.  Yes, that one over there.

Yup, you read that right. Tonight I figured out how to get kicked out of a Home Depot.

I got home after work today and all I wanted to do was make a quick run to the hardware store and pick-up the last few items I needed to work on a project tonight. I wanted to pick up the new door hinges, door knobs, door stops, and the 2 remaining door slabs I needed to replace all the interior doors in the house. Not a difficult project you’d think.

I get there, and I pick-up the door hardware and put that in a basket. Then I go to where the door slabs are, and I search for the two doors I need. All they have of one is a bunch of doors they are still trying to sell at full price but either had damage or a member of their staff was stupid enough to accept in as a return item after some prior customer painted them. The other door they didn’t have in stock, so I figured I’d have to order it.

No problem, or so I thought.

While living in Conservative Hell, I’ve run into a lot of rude people that kill you with kindness while they are being rude to you. This behavior I can normally handle and brush off - only today I was a bit down and emo, so my normal capacity to tolerate this BS was significantly diminished. The customer in front of me and her husband are what set me off.

In short, this is what happened - I yelled at this couple. I know all they wanted to do was order a new entry door for their home. I got to the store and the first thing I was going to do was put in my order to get the second door that wasn’t in stock. I saw this couple was being helped, so I went and retrieved the hardware I needed for the project, went and looked a few tools, returned and saw they were still working out their order, went back to see if they had the one door slab they do stock in one that hadn’t yet been molested, then returned to the desk.

During this time trying to locate the “in-stock” door, this couple was exhibiting indecisive behavior - something I do on occasion myself, but I don’t think to the level they were. I swear, they were having Home Depot sex about this door. While she and her husband were sitting in the chairs at the desk, I swear her pu$$y was practically dripping over this new door she couldn’t make her mind up about. I thought I could see a wet spot on the front of her skanky husbands jeans. It was rude. It was obnoxious. It was absolutely horrible!

Still, I bit my tongue.

Then it happened. The wife got up out of her slimy puddle of door ecstasy, reached into my shopping cart (I was holding the handle of the cart, it was obvious it belonged to me), and proceeded to pick up one of the door knobs I intended to purchase. She then asked me in a most pleasant voice if it was OK after the fact.

I lost it and went off on this couple. I went off about their indecision. I went off about the fact that it was taking them a nuclear half-life to make a decision about their door. I went off about the fact that my order would probably take a grand total of two minutes to process because I KNEW EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED. I went off on the wife about how rude it was to grab something out of another customers shopping cart and then ask if it was OK afterwards.

A few people gathered and watched my scene. Then the manager showed up and asked me to leave. Perhaps I deserved it but Jebus farking Christ! How stupid is the world getting these days?

Yup, that’s how you get kicked out of the Home Depot…

Sadly, I’m still down and all emo and I didn’t get a darn thing done on the house tonight. You’d think letting out all this emotion in one blast would help things. *blah*

Gee, if I would have known I’d get this kind of response to come get all those bricks I no longer need, I would have done this months ago.

Apparently all one has to do is put a big “FREE BRICKS” ad on Craig’s List and people fall all over themselves to get them.   I’ve had 10 e-mails from people wanting these these things in the five hours since I posted the ad.

P and I put in a three-day weekend on the house this week.  I worked on replacing the cracked bricks in the exterior wall of the house, and painting the trim that we missed last fall.  Ptiled the back splash in the kitchen, which he got mostly completed excepting the grout in the joints.  So, other than that, the basebaord trim in the kitchen, and the drawer pulls, the kitchen is done.

P is off to Phoenix this next weekend to interview for a “job” out there.  It seems like an amazing opportunity and I hope he and the “employer” decide to work together.  If it works out, this will be step one of both of us moving to Arizona.  Unfortunately if he gets it and has to leave quickly, I will be left to do the rest of the remodeling myself.  Fortunately that is mostly trim work and painting.  There are a couple of other things, but for the most part the ”heavy lifting” is done.

So for the next two weeks I think my project is going to be to paint the interior of the house and get that all squared away so he and I can do the garage drywall hanging and be done with it.  Once these things are done, I can call and get the carpeting installed, then it’s onto putting the house up for sale.  Let’s hope that happens in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

Since today is trash day, he and I also cleaned out the ceiling in the garage.  The prior owners that lived here for 50+ years left a bunch of stuff up there.  I was really hoping I’d find an old suitcase filled with a few million dollars worth of bearer bonds, but no such luck.  I do think I found a map leading to the place where the mob hid Jimmy Hoffa though.  Maybe I can auction that on eBay? (Just kidding FBI!)

We found 2 old American Tourister hard sided suitcases from the early 60’s, a wooden bird cage, tar paper, a bunch of old lumber not really good for much now, old building materials from when the house was built 55 years ago, a *huge* Christmas wreath, and a whole slew of old plastic containers from the 60’s and 70’s.

Perhaps the most interesting find was the old cardboard cylinder (about 4 gallons in volume) marked “Phenobarbital” on the outside and stamped with a date sometime in the early 1960’s.  There were no drugs in it though, just more plastic containers.

With as much as people have been pissing in my corn flakes lately, I’m glad I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel that marks the end of my time in Conservative Hell.
