I’ve been silent the past few days because I have been *very* busy traveling. I now have good news! After 20 long months, and a meeting with the consular officials last week I am now officially recognized as a dual US-Italian citizen. I have to wait a few months for the paperwork to be recorded in Italy, but as soon as that time passes, I can apply for a passport.
I’m so happy!
CONGRATULATIONS!
Have you spent time in Italy? I’ve been there twice (Spoleto in ‘84 for a month, Macerata in ‘96 for six weeks) and loved it.
Do you plan to actually live in Italy? I’m wondering why you’ve worked so hard at getting this dual citizenship.
Happy Easter!
OMG! You mean the country you’ve kept secret all this time is …Italy? Actually, I already knew that. Now you can travel anywhere in the giant country of European Union. Soon even the U.S.A will be part of the Union and they are already using Euros in the big cities. Congratulations CQ! We still have your name and exact location as a secret and I’ll die before I tell unless you do it first.
@cameron: For me it was a two part deal. Reconnect with my Italian roots and obtain citizenship in the European Union. I can use that as another enhancement to my resume if I go to work for a multi-national corporation that has most of its business in the US and EU. Oddly, I have not actually been to Italy… Yet! I flew over the place my ancestors are from last year when TQE and I went to South Africa, but other than that, I have not been there.
@ed: Of course you did, this isn’t exactly an easy process to mask. I also think Italy is the most favorable to its dispora.
Congratulations… I hope you celebrated with a big bowl of pasta!

Congratulazione! Ora è tempo di visitare l’Italia!
thats fan-phucking-tastic news CQ!! You’ve worked long and hard for this. You deserve this, congratulations. Tonight, a toast of Chianti instead of Chardonnay
Buongiorno! I was referred to you by Mikki regarding Italian dual citizenship because you also live under the Philadelphia consulate’s jurisdiction.
I’m sure I’m a candidate for dual citizenship, via mio bisnonno, so that’s not the concern. I’d just like, at least, a succint account of how to go about dealing with Philadelphia, their requirements, and so on.
Molte grazie, amico mio!
