I’m going to present my documents to the consulate for the EU Country X citizenship application on March 17th. I managed to snag two round trip tickets from Conservative Hell to Philadelphia for the princely sum of $64 (including taxes and fees). Let’s hope their bureaucracy doesn’t kick me in the head, and that the person I need to talk to will actually be in the office!
They have a tendency to act like you can just show up at the consulate on a whim, not realizing that the jurisdiction of their consulate covers a geographic area roughly the size of EU Country X.
P and I will be traveling to Philadelphia on March 16th and spending some time touring the city. I have done so in the past, but he has never been there, so I may just dump him off at the historic sites while I go to the consulate, since the offices are adjacent to the historic district. It will be good to see the sites/sights again, though the city itself is less like the movie Rocky and once you get away from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, it’s quite slum-ish if it is still like it was the last time I was there.
Let’s hope things are in alignment now! I really, really want to get this process concluded!
Good luck. You know, in the age of the FOIA, it’s shameful that you were told that you that you couldn’t get copies of that information (in another blog entry). Blah.
I haven’t been to Philly in ages! Maybe I’ll go this summer on my way back from the Command Performance at my grandma’s house.
I found the information retreival odd as well.
Once I explained to the county archivist what I want it for, he said if he “had to” he would send it to the court to get an official copy that I could have certified.
His concern was archival and not wanting the documents damaged which was playing against my need to have certified copies of those docuement. I mean, really, who is going to come look at those documents other than famly members?
They just had a difficult time believing someone would need a document from 1915-1916 for a modern purpose.
Well, I hope TQE isn’t on the flight with you.
I’ve never been to Philadelphia but then I’ve never been to anywhere I can’t drive to and back in one day.
I hear it is the city of brotherly love. One might remind the powers that be of this when they show their fangs and refuse to be helpful.
So, my ancestors got here before yours but not by too much. They took a ship which took 2 weeks in the year 1904. They didn’t move to the town I live in now until 1910. my Grandfather was born in 1890 he was an underground coal miner. Sorry, I love history even though most find it boring.
Is the Asperger’s acting up, ed? *grins* Mine does from time to time.
My communication and social skills are the same as they’ve always been thank you.
